The BAT Southern Africa area is part of the Africa and Middle East region. The Southern Africa area comprises of 10 markets and includes South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

British American Tobacco South Africa markets 22 brands in its portfolio and is the largest manufacturer of cigarettes in South Africa, with over 60% of the total legitimate tobacco market. The company contributes more than R10 billion a year in excise and Value Added Tax to the South African Government. Since 2003 BAT South Africa has invested more than R180 million in social responsibility projects towards socio-economic transformation in South Africa. In 2009, the company was ranked as one of the top ten companies to work for by BEST Employer.
